ESC Engineering was engaged by the City of Fremantle to design the dry fire systems for the Fremantle Markets as part of a wider building upgrade project.
Fremantle Markets is a historical building and area located in the heart of Fremantle WA, the markets first opened its doors in 1897 and is currently the home to numerous traders and a tourist attraction for many visitors to Western Australia.
The building does not have a conventional construction and with multiple tenancies located within the existing structure the complexity of the built form posed a number of unique challenges during the design process to ensure code compliant smoke detection and alarm systems to all areas.
The solution for the fire detection of the building incorporated smoke, heat, and liner detection to capture all the required areas.
ESC Engineering carefully reviewed the master plan of the building upgrade and designed the zoning of the detection system so when the next upgrade stage of the building went ahead only the areas being modified needed to be isolated, keeping the rest of the building live and protected during the staged building process.
